Living through another year of the pandemic means that it won’t be an easy Mother’s Day for a lot of people. Some might be quarantined away from their mothers or away from their own children, missing the opportunity to celebrate together in person. Others may be dealing with loss at this time. Others may be dealing with the stress of working and living at home, or struggling with the adjustment to return to the office. It’s important to hold space for the many different ways COVID is impacting people and families right now — and also, if it’s helpful, to allow a little room for comic relief, too.
Here are 11 things the quarantined mom in your life — which, maybe, is you! — probably wants for Mother’s Day this year.
1. The freedom to leave Panem without worrying about her and her children’s safety.
2. Freedom from screens.
3. Just kidding. The screens can stay.
4. Permission to go back to believing math is irrelevant.
5. Some new games to play.
6. A good, old-fashioned spa day.
7. Some killer views.
8. A gourmet meal, with a healthy dose of ambiance.
9. Shorter days.
10. Just some quality time together as a family, really.
11. But mostly.... this.
