At Zimmer Biomet, Giving Back is just one of the company’s guiding principles that helps support their mission to alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for people around the world — a mission that not only helps millions of patients each year, but one that lifts and inspires the company’s employees across the globe and connects them to a shared purpose to give.
Here are five ways that Zimmer Biomet gives back.
As an independent, philanthropic, and nonprofit organization, the Zimmer Biomet Foundation provides resources to help build healthy communities, advance STEM education, provide disaster relief, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The foundation has committed $2 million over three years to support partnered efforts with the NAACP to combat racial injustice and advance diversity and equality.
Through their online tool, The Giving Center, employees can double their charitable donations to eligible non-profit organizations thanks to the match program. The Zimmer Biomet Foundation matches employee giving dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500 per employee, per year (up to $1 million total annually).
The Zimmer Biomet Foundation, along with match-eligible gifts from global employees, also supports the Team Member Relief Fund, which provides short-term assistance to help bridge the financial gap for employees experiencing financial hardship.
The Giving Center is more than a giving tool — it’s a place to find volunteer opportunities. The Zimmer Biomet Foundation contributes $100 for every 15 hours that each employee volunteers at an eligible non-profit organization, up to $400 per calendar year, per team member, with their Dollars for Doers program — a way to financially incentivize volunteerism. They also have a paid time off policy in place for volunteering.
Each year, Zimmer Biomet supports medical mission trips by providing Zimmer Biomet products for underserved patients to be treated by surgical teams affiliated with nonprofit organizations. They also donate products for charitable surgeries in the U.S. to help uninsured patients. The company partners with and supports nonprofit organizations that combat healthcare disparities, such as Nth Dimensions and Movement is Life, and continues to elevate the conversation around gender disparities in orthopedics through their work with The Perry Initiative — all partnerships that have been longstanding.
It’s no secret — more and more, people want to work for companies that demonstrate good corporate stewardship, for people and the planet. Giving back is just one small part of Zimmer Biomet’s overall commitment to ESG — the company strives for best-in-class corporate citizenship and makes those efforts public each year in their annual sustainability report.
