If you’re getting ready to toast to the weekend, raise a glass to Anheuser-Busch, parent company of beloved beer brands such as Budweiser, Beck’s, and Michelob.
Yesterday, Anheuser-Busch announced a new parental leave policy for all full-time, salaried employees. Effective immediately, the company’s maternity leave policy offers mothers 16 weeks of paid leave, and any secondary caregiver of a new child 2 weeks of paid leave. Employees taking advantage of these policies will receive 100% of their salary during their time away.
In the company’s press release, Anheuser-Busch explained that their new benefit was “the right thing to do”. They also explained the policy was based on feedback from employees and an analysis of what other leading companies offer.
As Anheuser-Busch’s VP of People Sandro Bassili said, “We knew it was time for a change. We believe that introducing this new policy is the right thing to do and it was important to us that we heard and responded to, feedback from our colleagues. Our previous policy was not focused enough on this important time in our colleagues’ lives. The more we can listen to our people and respond, the better our workplace will be for us all.”
This news rounds out a great week for parental leave announcements. On Tuesday, Coca-Cola, a fellow company in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry, also announced a new leave policy offering employee of either gender, 6 weeks of paid parental leave. Following that, EY announced the leading parental leave policy among consulting firms.
