The president and CEO of the USA Gymnastics team, Kerry Perry, resigned Monday night after only nine months on the job, and just four days after coach Mary Lee Tracy was fired for contacting Larry Nassar victim Aly Raisman.

“I want to thank Kerry for her leadership under very difficult circumstances,” Karen Golz, chair of the USA Gymnastics board, said in a statement announcing the resignation. “In the wake of horrific events that have impacted our athletes and the entire gymnastics community, USA Gymnastics has made progress in stabilizing itself and setting a new path to ensure that the safety and interests of our athletes remains at the heart of our mission.”

The USA Gymnastics team has been at the forefront of the news agenda recently, as a wave of sexual abuse by Nassar, the former team doctor, surfaced in 2016. Nassar was convicted on multiple accounts of sexual assault and child pornography, according to Buzzfeed, including sexual abuse under the guise of medical treatment by more than 100 athletes such as Aly Raisman and Simone Biles. He was sentenced to serve between 40 and 175 years, and 40 and 125 years in prison in two separate cases, Buzzfeed reported.

On Friday, US Olympic Committee CEO Sarah Hirshland had said, “We feel that the organization is struggling to manage its obligations effectively.” She called for a change in leadership, and Perry has been accused of failing to make adequate reforms.
