Recently the San Francisco Chronicle reported on the state of gender diversity among the management ranks of the largest technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The top 5 employers in terms of women in management were Cisco, eBay (in combination with Paypal), HP, Symantec and Salesforce with female representation ranging from 35.7 percent to 21.7 percent.
The research focused only on the largest publicly traded employers -- those required by law to report on the identities of their executive officers and directors -- and yet only 4 companies out of 15 confirmed the paper's numbers.
While we understand the definition of "senior management" is subject to some amount of interpretation and corporate hierarchies are often very complex, we are a bit surprised and dismayed that so few employers seem willing to share information about gender diversity at their firms.

In 2016, we hope for more transparency about this issue and others that help us all understand where we really stand with respect to gender equality in the workplace.
