Ameriprise Financial, a leading diversified financial services company, is committed to fostering an inclusive culture and providing opportunities for every person in the company to build a rewarding career. As part of its diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy, it is the company’s vision to become the firm of choice for women in financial services. Here are eight ways that Ameriprise advances its representation, development, and support of women.
Building inclusive leadership skills: The Ameriprise executive leadership team completed unconscious bias training as have many employees, leaders and advisors. This goal is to have all Ameriprise employees attend this course.
The Women's Interest Network (WIN): WIN is a business resource network for employees of Ameriprise committed to promoting professional development by providing mentorship and leadership opportunities and insight on women's perspectives.
Mentoring and role modeling: Across the company Ameriprise supports formal and informal mentoring and networking programs. For example, women leaders in a business unit created an informal network where they connect to share ideas on best practices.
Volunteer opportunities: Ameriprise supports and provides volunteer opportunities with nonprofits whose missions help women in the community succeed in the workforce.
The Women’s Empowerment (WE) Network: The Women’s Empowerment (WE) Network is a grassroots community of women advisors focused on engaging, educating and empowering women based on four primary interest areas: advocacy, education, service and community.
Women Advisor Summits: These summits provide a meaningful forum for women financial advisors to network and enhance skills to serve their clients effectively, grow their practices and develop in their careers.
Returners Program: Ameriprise offers a return-to-work program for professionals who have taken a break from the workforce and are re-entering it. This program offers training and support, including flexibility in work schedule when possible, networking and mentoring, career planning, to aid in a smooth transition back to the workforce.
Alternative Work Arrangement policies: These policies help employees balance unexpected changes in life and business. Ameriprise also introduced new guidelines to address flexibility needs as a result of the pandemic to give employees flexibility in how long, where, and when work is completed.
In January, Ameriprise was included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (BGEI) for the second consecutive year. The BGEI investment index debuted in 2017 and aims to track the performance of public companies that share gender reporting and offer best-in-class policies and practices supporting women in the workforce. The company performed well across the GEI’s five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.
The eight items above are just a few of the ways the leaders, employees and advisors at Ameriprise Financial are advancing gender equality. Recruiting, retaining and developing women continues to be an important part of our diversity and inclusion strategy, and will continue to be a focus for our firm.
