ESCO, a division of The Weir Group, is a developer and manufacturer of engineered wear parts and replacement products used in mining and industrial applications. They are heavily driven by product innovation that has been proven through their 100+ years of experience and expertise in metallurgy, tribology (the science of wear), design engineering and manufacturing processes.

Weir forms a unique global champion in the mining industry — an industry leader that delivers innovative products and custom engineered solutions to enhance customer safety and productivity. To achieve these ambitions, Weir fosters a company culture that is inspiring, stimulating and embraces new thinking.

How Weir makes diversity a priority.

Diversity, equality and inclusion are important aspects of a successful work culture. At the Weir Group, they have taken the feedback of their global workforce seriously and are actively working to advance diversity, equality and inclusion within all aspects of their company.

One way that they are achieving this is through Weir’s Global Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Steering Committee. The I&D Steering Committee is made up of 15 employees representing many of the regions and businesses within Weir and is led by Weir’s Chief Financial Officer, John Heasley, in his capacity as Executive Sponsor for Inclusion & Diversity.

The goal of this new committee is to utilize the full potential and innovation of their entire team, across all regions, continents and countries where they operate, to achieve their “We are Weir” mission, vision and values. In its 150th year in 2021, the company and their global teams maintain a steadfast commitment to safety, delivering value for customers and contributing to an inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong.

What women have to say about working at Weir.

Weir ESCO’s Branch Manager in Phoenix, Arizona, Rachel Hanks, did not expect to end up in the mining industry, but she is happy she did. “There are so many opportunities for growth at Weir,” she says. “I tell new team members to learn the business regardless of what department they start out in.” It is by following this advice that she found her true passion with the company.

By trying out new areas and roles, Hanks advanced from a senior division accountant to finance manager to global sales operations director in only seven years at Weir ESCO. She currently acts as a branch manager, where she oversees a key area of growth for the business: the Arizona copper mines.

“The great thing about this role is it’s so dynamic,” Hanks explains. “One day I could be with an account manager out at a mine site working with our customers to solve their pain points or seeing how our new product trail is progressing. The next day, I could be at the ESCO fabrication facility walking the shop floor or working on strategy.”

Besides being a great place to grow a career and try out different career paths, Weir ESCO helps employees get the support they need to excel. As Melody Glasgow, Technical Manager/Metallurgist, notes, she has been lucky to “have been mentored by some of the smartest and most supportive folks in the industry…[who] have all encouraged me to explore new paths and increase my technical competence.” “For a company that has been making the highest quality products in our industry for over 100 years, mentorship and sharing industry best practices are vital,” she continues.

On the company culture, Glasgow says that, “The opportunities I’ve been afforded at Weir ESCO — managing my own team, living abroad and growing in my metallurgical expertise — are reflective of a culture that supports its team members. In my time here, I have watched the company grow, modernize, diversify and, most recently, embrace change with open arms as we joined Weir. I look forward to seeing where the company — and my metallurgical expertise — take me next.”

Come make your mark with Weir. Join  a respected, award-winning industry leader that is continuing to make vast and public commitments to a more inclusive work culture.
