Newman recently chatted with Fairygodboss about the ways Enova supports her and other team members: from corporate affinity groups and a four-week sabbatical to a supportive culture where everyone’s opinion matters.
Tell us a bit about your job. What’s your current role and how long have you been in this role?
I’ve been with Enova and leading marketing for our NetCredit business for three years. I manage a team that is responsible for growing and optimizing our active marketing channels: paid and organic digital, TV, partnerships, direct mail and email, as well as testing into new channels. I oversee our overall brand strategy and performance and am responsible for managing our budget and marketing spend to ensure that we are meeting our KPIs and delivering on our targets. I also partner very closely with cross-functional teams such as strategy and operations, analytics, product and market intelligence to better understand our customer and identify opportunities to test, grow and manage the health of our brand.
Does Enova provide any resources or programs to support women in your field?
Women @ Enova is one of our most popular corporate affinity groups. This group helps connect, develop and support female talent. Their focus is on professional development, networking, technology and volunteering. Every year they create and sponsor several events to help grow, empower and develop a sense of community. In addition, Enova has a mentorship program, Power of 3, available to support team members across the organization. I have personally found these resources very valuable.
How is this support reflective of the overall culture at Enova?
I feel very supported as an individual and in my career at Enova. The company has a few key values that we live by. One of my favorites is “Best Answer Wins”. But what does this mean, and how does it play out? Well, people are encouraged to challenge assumptions to drive toward the best solution. This means that — regardless of your gender, ethnicity, age or title — diverse ideas and perspectives are encouraged and considered when making critical business decisions.
What is your favorite benefit offered by Enova? How have you personally benefited?
My favorite perk is Summer Hours! Every Friday during the summer, we sign off at two p.m. to enjoy a longer weekend and take advantage of the (hopefully) good weather. Another great benefit is our sabbatical program. After four years with the company, you are eligible for four paid weeks off. I have a year to go before I qualify, but I’ve already started planning!
What is the most memorable piece of career advice you’ve received?
“Know your value and understand that the right place will recognize your value. If you’re not valued, it means you’re in the wrong place.”
I have felt very valued in my time at Enova. I have a lot of autonomy in my role, which has helped me develop as a leader and confident decision maker. My opinion matters, and my recommendations are used to make impactful decisions for the organization. The ability to make an impact is what keeps me excited about my job and working at Enova.
What advice do you have for other women who are considering a career with Enova?
Do it! Enova has been a great place for me to grow my career. I have the opportunity to work with a smart and motivated team who keep me on my toes. Together, we’ve worked on interesting challenges and opportunities for the business.
