Moody’s Corporation, a global integrated risk assessment firm, empowers organizations to make better decisions. Their data, analytical solutions and insights help decision-makers identify opportunities and manage the risks of doing business with others.

In everything that they do, Moody’s is committed to their five core values, which are being:

  1. Principled: They are united by a determination to act with integrity and make a positive impact on the global economy and in their local communities.

  2. Inclusive: They believe that diverse viewpoints lead to better decisions. Everyone’s opinion matters, and everyone’s contributions are valued.

  3. Collaborative: They work across boundaries to bring the right ideas, people and resources together to deliver the best outcomes and adapt to a changing marketplace.

  4. Forward-thinking: To stay relevant in a changing world, they look to tomorrow with curiosity, optimism and energy. Their passion, collective imagination and intellect opens the door to a better future for their customers, communities and the environment.

  5. Rigorous: Their intellectual excellence sets them apart. Moody’s approaches their work with the greatest care and always holds themselves to the highest standard because they know that their work has impact.

Aligned with these values is Moody’s commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. To this end, they aspire to be a place where everyone feels comfortable being their true selves, where every day is full of empathy and civility and where they celebrate the differences that make them stronger.

“It’s about treating others the way you would like to be treated. At Moody’s, we foster a diverse and inclusive culture by understanding its importance and then imbibing in ourselves.” — Sunali Gupta, Co-Chair, Moody’s Women's BRG India.

We’ll take a closer look at Moody’s culture and how it positively benefits employees in this article.

An intentional focus on DE&I and championing their employees.

“Diversity, equity and inclusion are in Moody’s DNA. We are firmly committed to providing a supportive workplace where all employees can thrive as their authentic selves.” — DK Bartley, Chief Diversity Office.

Moody’s culture is driven by inclusivity, collaboration, transparency, flexibility, innovation, progressiveness, connectivity and nurturing. And, the firm prides themselves on ensuring that diversity, equity and inclusion are embedded into the day-to-day initiatives and overall business.

“We firmly believe different backgrounds and cultures bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to the table,” Moody’s 2020 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Annual Report states. “Having a diversity of viewpoints is an integral part of the quality of our credit rating opinions, products and services. We support independent thought and seek to promote a work environment that values and maximizes the contributions of all employees.”

These values are evidenced by the main internal programs that support Moody’s DE&I ambitions, including measures to enhance employee and senior leadership engagement and training and development opportunities for their future leadership pipeline, as well as recruitment, pay and benefits.

As part of their DE&I efforts, Moody’s hosts a variety of employee-led groups to support employees and advance Moody’s commitment to bettering the world around them. For instance, Moody’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team and employee-led Black Inclusion Group help Moody’s live up to their anti-racism pledge (which resulted in a commitment of $1 million over the next five years to promote equal justice and advancement of the Black community) by identifying opportunities and ways to support racial justice organizations and initiatives, including pro bono and employee activities.

In regards to women in the workforce, Moody’s offers women’s leadership development programs (including executive coaching for senior women), educational sessions and access to senior managers and mentors. Moody’s Women’s Business Resource Groups organize mentoring programs, career panels and leadership spotlights as well as build relationships with community organizations.

One example of these efforts is the TIDE Program, a high potential diversity initiative aimed at elevating women and people of color to leadership positions. The program is designed to enhance career opportunities, engagement and retention through individual development experiences. Additionally, Moody’s recently launched a gender finance research hub during Women’s History Month (WHM) to further champion gender equality.

Moody’s efforts have resulted in them been recognized as a best place to work for women by:

  • Working Mother (Top 75 Companies for Executive Women)

    • Recognized for championing women’s advancement, with a focus on succession planning, profit-and-loss role, gender pay parity, support programs and work-life balance programs.

  • Working Mother (100 Best Companies 2020)

    • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in creating progressive programs, benefits and policies for their workforce.

  • The Women’s Forum of New York (Corporate Champion)

    • Named the Corporate Champion for women holding 20% or more corporate board seats.

And to further support future and current employees, Moody’s also has a return-to-work program, Re-IGNITE, which enables individuals to re-enter and successfully reintegrate into the workplace, as well as generous benefits in the US including fertility benefits, adoption/surrogacy benefits, 10-weeks of paid parental leave and backup childcare services.*
