If you’re pursuing your dream career, don’t underestimate the power of persistence. For Erica Marracco, a Mortgage Banker at Quicken Loans, staying determined has been the key to achieving her goals. “If I had given up on myself and lost faith in my abilities before I got the opportunity to actually be a Mortgage Banker, I would have missed out immensely,” she says.

Now that Marracco has her dream job, she’s grateful that her employer encourages her to be herself and lets her personality shine through the work she does.

Recently, Marracco shared with Fairygodboss what she loves about working at Quicken Loans, the most memorable piece of career advice she’s ever received and the career move she’s most proud of.

How long have you been in your current role? What were you doing previously?

I’ve been in my current role for just over 6 months. Previously, I was working with a company called Rock Connections while I studied for the federal licensing exam.

What do you love most about Quicken Loans?

The opportunity. You get back as much as you give.

What is the most unique or interesting aspect of working at Quicken Loans?

I’m always amazed by how quickly the whole team works and is able to get things done.

What is something you think most people (perhaps even current employees) don’t know about Quicken Loans?

You’re encouraged to be yourself. Highlighting your personality on the phone, for example, is actually a plus; we’re not robots.

What is the first and last thing you do at work every day?

I organize my priority list to keep stress levels down. At the end of the day, I finish by going through my client list and making sure everyone was called.

What are some of your strengths at work?

I’m good at being coachable and accepting help from others.

What are your strengths outside of work?

Singing. I was classically trained for over a decade before working at Quicken Loans.

What has been your favorite mistake?

I like any mistake that I can learn from.

What are you currently reading/watching/listening to?

I’m reading “Little Red Book of Selling” by Jeffrey Gitomer.

Who is the most influential person in your life? Why?

My mother, because she is the hardest worker I know while still being kind and strong.

What was the best quality of the best boss you’ve ever had?

The best boss I’ve ever had was tenacious in holding me accountable for my duties.

What is your No. 1 piece of advice for women who are looking for jobs right now?

You can’t give up on yourself because nobody can face your fears for you.

What career move are you most proud of?

Being persistent. If I had given up on myself and lost faith in my abilities before I got the opportunity to actually be a Mortgage Banker, I would have missed out immensely. I am most proud of my choice to continue studying to pass the mortgage licensing exam instead of giving up.

What is the most memorable piece of career advice you’ve received?

“You’ll never work a day in your life if you do what you love.”
