Sysco has a tradition of helping women discover the power of possibilities. The company has diversity at every level of the organization — including the boardroom, sales team and drivers delivering its produce — and has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusion and diversity with its investment in amazing benefits.
With its pregnancy and adoption leave benefits, child and elder care discounts, dependent scholarships and financial assistance services, Sysco has a history of providing a best-in-class experience to its associates.
“Sysco is committed to growing female leaders,” one anonymous reviewer wrote on Fairygodboss. “If you want to advance your career with a Fortune 100 employer committed to diversity, Sysco is for you!”
But in 2020, things are only getting better. Recently, Sysco announced a groundbreaking new program, Powering You at Sysco, which provides more benefits to support associates’ total well-being to power their health, mind, financial security and community.
What exactly does that entail and how does it make Sysco an especially appealing place for women to work? We’ve broken down each pillar of the exciting new program and how it’s empowering Sysco employees to seize the possibilities in their personal and professional lives.
1. Sysco is supporting associates’ health…
This series of developed health benefits help Sysco associates tackle their personal health head-on and provide additional support to associates and their dependents who are managing health challenges.
Through the program, associates receive a new, dedicated Health Pro advocate to help simplify the complexities of healthcare. This professional helps associates understand their healthcare options and take full advantage of their benefits. From answering questions about benefits to reviewing medical bills to scheduling appointments, the Health Pro is like having your own personal healthcare advisor.
Associates also benefit from musculoskeletal condition support to help associates who need physical therapy, an online behavioral counseling program for people with prediabetes and other obesity-related health risk factors, and nutritional therapy, which has been clinically shown to reverse Type 2 diabetes.
Perhaps one of the most compelling new benefits, Sysco associates receive access to City of Hope oncology experts who offer decision support for individuals with complex cancers.
2. … and supporting their mental wellness.
Powering You at Sysco helps associates receive the support they need to prioritize their mental well-being. The program offers a telemental health service, including an online assessment tool that matches associates with a therapist and allows them to work with a therapist via online video chat from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. The program also offers enhanced Live and Work Well support, allowing associates special access to mental health and substance use disorder resources and care.
Sysco’s new benefits also help parents provide care for their dependents. The new Parent Support resources assist associates who have dependents with special needs or behavioral concerns.
3. Sysco is helping associates feel secure.
Sysco understands that financial wellness is an incredibly important part of feeling secure and empowered. With that in mind, the Powering You program offers a financial tool to help associates keep up with their financial progress, financial benefits and other important elements of preparing for their futures. This initiative compounds with Sysco’s existing financial assistance services and financial benefits like flexible spending accounts.
4. Sysco is building community.
An important part of fostering inclusion, beyond helping individuals feel independently supported and empowered, is offering opportunities for associates to come together as a community and build a culture worth bragging about. Sysco’s latest initiative does just that.
Powering You brings even more support for Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) and opportunities to launch new ARGs across Sysco, all to connect associates to the broader community. Sysco is also offering numerous community service opportunities to support local communities and bring associates together.
While Sysco is already an industry leader in its dedication to gender and ethnic diversity, 2020 is sure to bring even greater strides towards being a great place for women to work. As one anonymous female VP wrote: “We are continuing to strive to make Sysco a sought-after organization for females in the workforce. We have improved our maternity/paternity benefits and... our organization is evaluating how to improve the flexibility across the organization. This is a top focus to enable us to retain top talent."
