This is so hard. Go outside if you can for a breath of fresh air, or a quiet space. i have recently started using headspace mediations at night but they also have quick 5 minute day meditations as well to help you recenter that I would try. It just lets you bring your focus back to whats important and that is you.

https://www.headspace.com/ They are great. I have a hard time falling asleep often because I think of a 100 things , especially work and this is amazing.

As someone with chronic anxiety, I would also suggest having a quick conversation or sending a note to your primary care. Working with a professional can be incredibly beneficial!

I’m already on a waiting list but it’s weeks long. I am debating about taking meds but I want the dosage to be low

@MPearlH, Sorry to hear you're suffering from anxiety. I saw your comment about medication and wanting to potentially try a low dosage but that the waiting list is weeks' long. I've tried prescription anti-anxiety medications in the past from my GP, but the rebound anxiety (after the meds wear off) was almost worse for me than the original anxiety. Doctors generally are wary of prescribing benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, etc.) but you could ways ask for a beta blocker Propranolol or a non-habit-forming anti-anxiety medication like Buspar (buspirone). Recently I've started acupuncture which has been amazing for anxiety relief! Some insurance plans cover the cost in full and some acupuncture clinics offer sliding scale / 'pay what you can afford' sessions which are great when on a student budget. :) If acupuncture is not an option for you I've found herbs such as rhodiola, holy basil, ashwagandha, and an amino acid called l-theanine to all be very helpful. Depending on how stressed I feel I might take just the rhodiola or l-theanine; other times when I'm super-stressed I might eat all four at once. L-theanine is also found in tea, so a cuppa tea can never hurt either! :)

Staying hydrated and having healthy snacks available to help break that anxiety cycle are a huge help for me. I tend to take a few minutes to get up and walk away from my desk as well.

Ummm I paniced today cuz a higher up was being a holy terror and I forgot my locker combination. Totally embarrassing rofl tho I didn’t lose my sales face and sold a ton of clothing! I mainly kept my grip by reasoning with myself that its a day, I’m strong enough to get through. I did but w a red face

I am really sorry to hear that you have anxiety at work! I am not sure where you physically work and the source of your anxiety, but if you are able to use lunch as a break time I would! When I feel anxious I like to make sure I take my lunch break and use the full time to not look at anything related to work and to enjoy my lunch by sitting somewhere away from my desk. If I am a bit busier that day, I'll reduce it to 30 minutes instead of an hour. This really helps me reset for the day and I come back to my work mindset with a calmer mind.

Having a wave of anxiety hit you at work is the worst so I definitely feel your pain. If possible, I try to step outside for a second and breathe. Drinking water always help me calm down as well - stay away from coffee!

Hi MPearlH, fellow Poli Sci major here. I'd suggest looking around within your company first, or any friend/family member next, and find a Mentor. Mentors can offer personal recommendations 1on1 that could really resonate with your situation. If you find a role model within your own company even better, as they can also help smooth the field and answer questions on how they would handle certain situations given who and what they already know. Good Luck!

I deal with a lot of anxiety at my job. It has gotten so bad that I have had panic attacks. The best way for me to deal with it is to step away and take a short breaks. Then come back to my desk and prioritize what has to be done. I have to remind myself that what doesn’t get done today will get done tomorrow. And that’s ok.
