I have a job offer from a new company, but would like to give my current employer the opportunity to make a counteroffer. Do I accept the offer knowing there is a small chance I will rescind, or do I discuss this with my manager (who is C-Level and can make a decision) before accepting? For some background, I like my job and was not specifically looking to make a move, but have been feeling a bit stalled at my current company and connected well with the leadership in this potential new company. Any advice on how to approach this situation is welcome.

Talk to your current boss before accepting. Changing your mind won't look good. Tell the offering company you would like 24-48 hours to consider their offer. I would not share that you want to let your current employer counter. This is an enviable position to be in - Congratulations on your offer!
