Many people stay because of the flexibility (e.g. can adjust hours to coordinate drop offs) but it is a high price to pay for the inability to truly disconnect. While I may move things around to accommodate my schedule, I still end up working long hours.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    7 paid / 4 unpaid

In addition to paid maternity leave, you must use your PTO to stretch beyond the paid portion. Recruiters might tell you it's 8-10 weeks paid (6 weeks for standard birth/ 8 for c-section plus 2 weeks paid parental leave), you must use your PTO the first 5 days of the leave, so it's really 7-9 firm paid weeks.

Improve work-life balance and benefits. The benefits are lacking in all ways.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. Depends if you work at the corporate level inside the office or if you are out in the field. The employees in the field are great. They are treated great. Pay is great. They get bonuses. Foremen and Superintendents bend over backwards for them. In the office there is no flexibility at all. No flex hours. No asking opinions of employees.

March 2017

This can be a great job if you like government service, and are interested in important work that is slightly less stressful, but the ability for your employer to be flexible is limited.

Again, this may not apply to all jobs within King County, but working for the court is a bit difficult because technologically, they're quite behind the private sector, e.g. no ability to work remotely, limited flexibility because court must nearly always be accessible.

Maybe. It depends on what kind of job you want to have - King County is so large and diverse that my experience working for the court may not be representative of working for the County overall.

January 2017

This company is behind in technology, business practices, and is in the midst of cultural change. They both want people who will speak up, respectively, be willing to take constructive feedback, and go above and beyond their job description. They expect a lot, and compensation is not transparent. Its not easy to tell where you fit and how to work your way up. Lots of changes going on that may change a lot of that. Hard to see the direction.

Again, flexibility is different in various departments and roles. Be sure this is the right fit during your interview.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. Some departments are better than others. IT for example. My work life balance and work satisfaction went up 10x in IT than in business operations. Be careful during interviews, and ask questions to make sure the team you'd be joining is a cultural fit for you.
