The squeeky wheel gets the attention here, and several clique's exist among Senior Management. If you are on "The A List" you are set, otherwise you will be understaffed and worked into the ground. We hire a majority of female employees, but there is lack of Management and Professionalism when it comes to promotions, recognition and support to resolve challenges.

They are flexible with doctor's appts., kids events etc....with the expectation you are right back to work afterward. Plenty of PTO awarded on the PTO plan, but not enough people in the office to actually be able to take PTO because there is no one to cover your day off.

They promote men above women into higher middle management positions. They promote people based off of their fear of losing team members, rather than on performance or earned promotion. Threaten to quit, and they will give more money or new job title. If in a Management position and failing to meet goals, they will create a new job and 'Director" title for you to maintain their Glassdoor reviews.

It depends on what department you work in as to whether you will progress. The company is small. Remember, there are pluses and minuses to that. Plus, you are easily recognized for good work. Minus, depending on where you work, there is a good deal of nepotism. There are employees who should not have been put in positions because of nepotism. They do not have the skills or education and get away with behavior that would not be tolerated elsewhere.

Excellent for flexibility and benefits, but lots of room for improvement in equality and advancement despite the fact that the CEO is a woman.

Look at other options first. The Salk has a great name, but it seems to be a sinking ship.

When doing lab science, you have to be flexible, but, ultimately, the science dictates the schedule; not you.

Your experience can be very dependent on your direct supervisor. Some women have a hard time getting time off approved. I am lucky I am not one of them. However we do not have paid maternity leave and there is a sense of "panic" that ensues (driven by a handful of individuals) when someone is preparing for maternity leave. It can be very stressful for the mother and the burden mostly falls on her to make provisions while she is gone.

I worked here in South Africa for 7 years. The exec and management structure is still male dominated but they do encourage females. The culture is good and working hours are flexible, many people leave early to pick up kids.
