"Follow the current news on CUNY; right now it's in a serious crisis, and some parts are more directly affected than others. A turnaround seems inevitable sooner or later, since this institution is so essential to NYC, but that depends on politics in NYC and especially in Albany."

One thing City University of New York can improve?
"Better paths for career development. Some benefits here (great health insurance) can serve as golden handcuffs if you face a dead end. New hires should seriously consider the 401k (non-pension option) to maximize flexibility in case the job isn't one they should stay in. "

"Good policy thanks to union bargaining (almost all employees are covered by a union). 8 weeks came out of accumulated sick leave. C-sections receive 16 weeks total, "normal" births receive 14 weeks total. Employees at the highest executive category are not covered by a union and only receive sick leave. Paternity leave was also recently introduced for unionized employees."
Would you recommend City University of New York to other women?
"It really depends on the job and where you are in the institution. "
