Maybe. The culture was beginning to change when I left and was more prevelent on the Premium side of the business than on the central valley (of CA) side. Mostly, men on the winemaking/operations side were being promoted or men were being hired from outside, while women remained stagnant in their roles. Something happened and in the past year there have been a TON of promotions to level the field so hats off to Gallo for redirecting the ship a little.

That it is very important to communicate your needs and desires up front. You direct manager is not a mind reader, so if you want to take your kids to school 3 days a week, communicate those desires up front and talk through schedules.

Allow managers more time to focus on LEADING their team. This requires time for thinking and creating strategic plans as well as the time to implement with teams. The expectation seems to be that the manager spends as much time in the day to day tasks as the people they are leading. This causes undue stress on the leader as well as the team.

The company culture is very inclusive, and family friendly. The company has made concerted efforts over the last 5-10 years to promote more women into leadership positions, but there is still a gap at the executive leadership level. It's closing, but still something to watch out for.

This industry is a very male centric one. As a wonan, it can sometimes be intimidating, however I feel that Gallo does a nice job recognizing this dynamic and maintains a highly professional approach. In addition, the female leaders in our organization are very supportive of one another and provide great mentor ship and sponsor one another and the women coming up behind them.

Gallo is a large corporation with thousands of people around the world, and yet they treat every employee like family. It can be a very fast paced environment, but leadership and management is always open to finding solutions to help people find the right balance for themselves.
