"Be prepared to work a minimum of 70 hours a week. There are good policies on paper, but in practice you will not advance in your career if you take advantage of flex time or job sharing. So go in knowing that. Also know that no matter how hard you work, you will never be promoted unless you know the right people and how to curry favor with them."

One thing EY can improve?
"Like all organizations, EY had its problems: very few women at the top, rampant office politics, lack of understanding of different cultures, totally not "getting" millennials, etc. And nobody (man or woman) ever got promoted unless they were part of the inner circle. It was a good place to work overall, but they were behind the times in many ways."

"It depended on the whims of your boss. Some managing partners were much more open-minded than others. In fact, both women and men tried to change departments based on who they knew their boss would be!"

Would you recommend EY to other women?
"I must point out that I no longer work at EY; since August 2016 I have been working for another employer. But before that I was at EY for nearly 9 years, so I can speak best about that firm. I honestly don't think there is gender discrimination, but race and ethnicity are real issues; the biases are quite overt in some cases. There are also long-established "cliques" and "inner circles" that are very hard for outsiders to penetrate."

"They are very big on flexibility and working from home. Six months paid parental leave in the US. But it can still be very long hours depending on which area you work. "

"Fast paced. Competitive. Challenging. Not quite as far along in women's diverisity as other companies but putting effort into focusing in that area"
