Better than most other companies. Women are still not equal to men here.

This is a good company to work for, if you are looking for work life balance, and a steady job.

Maybe. This company can give you a good work life balance depending on what department/function your job is in, but it is difficult for women to get promoted organically as they have a tendency to hire from outside.

You'll do well if you play the political games and don't care about stepping all over other in order to get ahead! I wasn't about to become a kiss-ass and apparently this was a problem! Also, if you are a woman, it's almost as if they expect you to behave like an evil dictator. I was being accused of being too nice.

This was by far one of the most disappointing companies that I have ever worked for.

nepotism is alive and well there, they need to also step into the 21st century when it comes to technology, processes and overall ways of doing business

Amex has a positive, relationship-based culture and recently announced a great new parental leave policy. My one (gender-related) complaint is that there are not as many women in senior positions as there should be given that at lower levels some departments are dominated by women.

Great place for years 4-7 of a career. Mid-career growth will be limited.

Maybe. Great place to be mom of young children. Lots of expected and granted flexibility. But long term career growth is limited, or shallow--more lateral than up.
Today, a lot of the leadership is ossified and too narrowly experienced just within American Express. A lot of common leadership practices are no longer considered best practice and the company is slow to learn from external sources.
