"A certain amount of stubbornness in ones intention to persist and gain enough to ground to thrive is needed when encountering old school attitudes to women on the part of branch managers. Women do succeed and thrive here and they are advancing. However there are definitely still fewer of us in better paying roles which have more opportunity for advancement. This does seem to be improving."

"The employer is working on changing the culture but it takes time at the branch management level where branch managers have in some cases been fast to claim flexibility for themselves but slow to allow others to do the same - when more senior managers have been trying to explain policies on conference calls more junior managers at the branch level have talked over them in a rush to explain how these policies aren't being explained accurately."

"Fidelity is working hard to ensure diversity in the workplace at senior levels - understandably it is a process to implement this in a system where a lot of lower level managers are men who grew up in a chauvinistic culture. Women have left the job who have been badgered by their boss for leaving work on time to pick up children from daycare. As change is being implemented, it’s important to be willing to hang in there and hold ground to help make that happen. "

"You need to make sure you have a strong manager who supports is team. During the interview process see if you can speak with potential peers to ask about the balance of power is with main departments you interface with - collaborative, combative | peers or slave? The benefits are great and they have emergency child care, will help with college debt and there is an ability to move among divisions once in. "

"Fidelity is a big firm with competing divisions - comes down to the manager and the relationship among departments. The closer the position is to the trading and portfolio management function, the higher the chance of it being run like an old boys network. Rare to be #metoo behavior (HR will fix that) but bullies and or man spread is possible. While Fidelity does offer paternity leave for 2 weeks, the men tend not to use this benefit. "

"This is an excellent place to work - with lots of room for growth. It is an environment that rewards hard work and success. But if you also focus more on your life outside of work, it's a great place for that as well. It is a well-established company that understands employees are mature, have families and outside lives. Benefits are more on the maternal/paternal leave, generous 401k's side of the spectrum rather than free food, Friday beers, and ping pong tables."

"Flexibility varies greatly by job type and manager preferences. For phones roles, there is very little flexibility. But for all other roles, it is mainly manager dependent, but I would say many managers aren't very strict about hours or butt-in-office time. I work from home 2-3 days a week."

"I've worked at Fidelity for 5 years and it's a good company that I believe cares about its employees. "Do not be intimidated by all the men in your training class. Try to apply for open positions as they come up. Most people only stay in those positions an average of 6 months anyway. Ask for more unpaid maternal leave if you're not ready to come back to work. With my first I only took 12 weeks FMLA (6 weeks paid/6 weeks unpaid). Fidelity also offers up to 12 weeks of personal leave of absence. It's unpaid and has to be approved by director but if you're in a larger department such as Service, it will probably get approved. For breastfeeding moms, they have a "mothers room" for pumping. Very nice with a fridge and sink and limited access."
