Maternity leave is a joke. 3 weeks paid. For an organization that is about caregiving you think they’d get on board with this.

At some point in your career, you will hit a wall. There is no way around it and very few mentors to help women push through those since there are some strong "good old boys club" roots still proudly woven through this company. Be prepared to use what you have learned to find a promotion at another company. This is a very common path for women within the West Michigan furniture industry.

There's intrinsic bias and limiting beliefs about women in science that are occasionally just hard to get around; but the USGS is a place where avoiding that is often and almost usually possible; I'm certain that it depends on coworkers and direct managers, though.
