"Many teams allow flexible schedules and especially in Michigan many teams are able to work from home on "Snow Days." We all value our work/life balance at GM. I know some orgs have more or less flexibility, but I've never felt like I *had* to work 10-12 hour days. But, sometimes I do, but on my terms. "

"Company policy is good but not groundbreaking. As a company with a female CEO we should have groundbreaking maternity leave and we do not. The culture is generally great. I absolutely love my job and what I do. One must be aware however that it is still a male dominated field and without malice intent men get more pay and are more likely to be promoted. "

"There has to be something said about how amazing it is to work in the Auto Industry for a company who has an amazing Female CEO and Board of Directors that is 50% women! Mary Barra is truly an inspiration to work for, though she is not the only inspiring woman at this company. GM is making great strides at balancing the scales and getting more women into positions of leadership. This isn't just about promoting women for the sake of promoting women either.... it is about highlighting the amazing work women are doing and giving credit where credit is due. "

"While this can vary by department and manager, each manager I have seen and the majority I have encountered truly values work-life balance and understands that life is a part of work. We have families and commitments outside of the workplace. I often seen managers allow flexible schedules to allow for dropping off or picking up their children. "

"Find a mentor. Engage in ERGs and GM Women. I find that there isn't a lot of guidance or understanding of women between 30-38 and mid career. Mostly because there doesn't seem to be a lot of women that I work with in this age group. They are mostly managers or new college grads. I think this is because GM has a fairly traditional career path with a heavy engineering focus. So there might not have been a lot of female engineers, that with the lack of jobs when I graduated from undergrad."
