I worked in Cosmetics as a counter manager and a beauty stylist and got up 8 weeks of 60% paid maternity leave, which was great. Since the environment is commission based, it was difficult to be a breastfeeding/pumping mother when I came back, as time away from the floor was looked down on. Sales floor was very competitive, as jobs are constantly threatened if goals are not met. Rarely were people actually fired though--it is used more as a scare tactic. Gay men were given preference in every area, as the general assumption was that women would purchase more from them.

Mat leave policies should be better, longer, and should kick in sooner. After 11 months I should qualify for paid leave!

Be careful, it may seem great at the start, but men are pronoted faster than women to executive positions

Sadly, it's a mean girl culture. Women do not encourage others growth. Rather they tend to criticize other women to raise themself up.

Be prepared to join the male mafia. Learn who upper management personally likes and dislikes and follow suit. Get in with the marketing clique and you'll go far.

Maybe. Most leadership positions are filled by men, and they are keen to promote and hire from a shared social group made up of other men.
