While the pay is lousy, the vision, dental, and 401 K are excellent benefits. “Older” women are skipped over for younger women when opportunity for promotion or advancement arise, which is their loss since the millennial crowd does not have the same sense of job loyalty.

I would actually keep it about the work itself. They have many leadership and management opportunities for women. Half of the Vice Presidents of the organization are women.

Look carefully at who your direct supervisor and chain of command will be. Research those people on LinkedIn. There are good women leaders at TIAA and if you're lucky enough to get in one of their departments and even become mentored by them, you'll have a very good experience.

    My particular department at TIAA needs structure and leadership. It is such a siloed organization. There are departments that can run amuck and cause havoc within the general company, which happened in User Experience.

This firm says it's committed to supporting working mothers and "diversity" (which includes women?!) but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Women who have children while employed here are marginalized upon returning from leave. HR is incompetent and completely unresponsive regarding even the most basic questions about leave and benefits. Flextime isn't allowed. They do give you a Haynes & Boone picture frame though when you have a baby. So that's something. My advice to women thinking about working here is to stay away unless you know that children aren't in your plans.

There are quite a few women here; in fact, the office is predominantly female. That, however, is indicative of the industry as a whole (PR / Marketing Communications). There seems to be a solid of mix of men and women in high-level roles. The company is also very welcoming / friendly to LGBT employees, which speaks to a progressive mindset (which I personally iike). Mentorship is important here as well- both being a mentor and having one, and I've had a positive experience with that as well. Overall, I'd recommend Edelman as a positive place for women to work.
