Be careful who your direct supervisor/ supervisors are because that can drastically determine your experience.

There is a lot of opportunity for hard-working, smart people. There is just some drama at the leadership level that is an unfortunate aspect.

Some areas have a different culture than others, and more flexibility or less. HR and leadership should recognize those areas and how they're unique to encourage those practices in other areas.

I wouldn't recommend working here for anyone. It's a toxic culture, there are very few women in managerial positions.

August 2017

It's a small, private company, and many of the employees there had retired from long-term positions at other companies, so they are also age-friendly. During the recession, they held on to their employees as long as possible, and minimized staff cuts as much as they could.

Don't let the "boys club" rule! Challenge any level of bias against women and demand transparency within your department! Transparency and oversight is the only way women will get ahead.

It depends on what position you hold. I think most professors have a lot of flexibility, but the support staff does not.

April 2016

As usual it's who you know not what you know. Although I was hired without knowing anyone, to move up you have to be "plugged" into the old boy network. Additionally, even though the company has been headed by a woman and the new CEO is woman, there are very few women in positions of executive or mid-level management.
