Shire is a good company to work for but lately it seems to be growing quicker than it can handle and employees seem to be suffering from this growth in regards to benefits.

From perspective of Health Plan employee- not hospital/ health system: the boss of the health plan CEO is a woman of color, which sends a nice message. I've experienced much less overt sexism here than other workplaces and there is a precedent of strong women leaders here. That said, majority of senior leadership is still white men. No paid mat leave or anything beyond FMLA but there is a designated locked pumping room on separate floor with a schedule for use.

    Major bureaucracy involved in all job postings and internal promotions -- the CEO must personally approve each and every change from his email, so not surprisingly promotions move slowly and positions take months to get posted. I've been told I would be promoted for months but there seems to be a logistics snafu every week.

It's not 50/50 for gender disparity, but that has more to do with the industry in general. I think if you work hard and figure out how to make it up the ladder, you have no limits on what you can achieve. Leadership is definitely thinking about ways to improve the gender gap and work on women's initiatives so it's a great place to be at the moment.

    It really depends on which client you're supporting or which project you land on. The company itself is very flexible and care more about the results and outcomes of your work rather than seeing you in person sitting in the chair. However, some clients still operate in an old school setting. In general, we support the federal government and most of those jobs are not extremely taxing or demanding. (40 hours a week, 9-5 Mon-Fri)

I worked there for more than 2 years and there were a lot of women there in support and leadership but men hold the highest titles and have the highest compensation. There is no room for advancement unless someone took a particular liking to you. Senior management promotes themselves and no one else.
