Be prepared to take a back seat to the men in the office. Men will get hired who are friends of the boss before they will hire any women who are qualified. On top of that, they get promoted and get longer lunches than the women of the office who have been there 3 years longer.

Advocate for the highest possible salary coming in....ask for promotions and think strategically about value and path to increase . Have a plan, even if they don't use your plan, it make for good advancement conversation.

Many women work at higher levels in QA. Not very many women working in upper levels of management outside of QA. The benefits here are fantastic and a main reason for staying. My boss was also very flexible with regard to family needs (doctors appointments, sick children, etc.) and that was very much appreciated.

The gender gap still exists - Few women in executive or senior leadership positions. Women's Leadership group only acknowledges you at Asst. VP level or above, does not encourage development of those below that title. Flexible work arrangements are discouraged in retirement business area. Recently added 3 weeks to maternity policy which is favorable.
