August 2018

Like most major companies, you are doing the work of 3 people. Negotiate up front your requirements for flexibility and work life balance and get it in writing.

It's very inconsistent, lots of flexibility depends on department and even manager.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    8 paid / 8 unpaid

You are allowed to take up to 16 weeks off but only 2 are fully paid (6 are FMLA). VUMC also pays monthly so many times when women would come back from maternity leave they already missed the pay cycle-- which means three months without a paycheck.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Improve work-life balance and policies (e.g. flex-time, limit face time)

The team is fairly young so they're not wired into issues around parenting or parents but they're open to learning.

Started from the ground-up by CEO Katie Patterson, this company was an amazing place for a young professional woman to start working in an advertising agency!

Women are not treated fairly, given the same opportunities as men, promoted as readily as men, or paid as well as men. Sexual discrimination and sexual harassment is commonplace.
