It is hard to break in to really shine right now in the department I was in. Be ready to stay late for management to get to know you. Also, in order to learn, don't wait for the opportunity, go out and interact with your colleagues to learn as much as you can.

    While they will let you leave early fro an emergency, they do not like you doing that often. Also, they will not let you change your hours to fit you life and expect you to stay late everyday for face time.

    Flexibility varies widely from department to department and manager to manager. Upper leadership gives lip service to work-life balance but does respect time off and some act like they are doing you a huge favor when you ask for flex time.

I have been with the company for over 20 years. They will be fair and as flexible as you articulate you need. Work/Life balance is yours to own. I have stayed in client facing roles for the entire time, including after having 2 children, becoming divorced, and being a single mom (one with a great support network).
