There are good policies on flex times and flexible work arrangements. Some divisions allow for part time employment and transitions between part time and full time.

Some good policies but unevenly deployed. The attitudes towards women vary. In some areas there is very early promotion of women into leadership positions they are not qualified or equipped for.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. Depends on the position and business unit as to whether I would recommend. There are many good opportunities, but some to avoid.

Generally speaking, it is a good place to work if you have children. Flexibility is job dependent.

There is great focus and support for Paradigm for Parity at UTC. Diversity and inclusion is definitely an area of focus for leadership.

For a large corporate company, they are relatively progressive with their benefits (maternity leave, paternity leave, flex-time, scholar program), but there is a lot of work that still needs to be done to promote a culture of work-life balance.

It is male dominant in many places, however, I feel as though the company culture is changing to be more equal and woman are beginning to have a stronger role in management. If times seem hard, just keep pushing because things are changing.

I believe it truly depends on your role and type of business. If you are in a finance or supply chain role, you would be able to do your work remotely and would be more flexible in taking time off. However, if you work in operations or directly with a manufacturing line then you may not have as much flexibility. Or if your superior says you can be flexible, it might be frowned upon and hurt how your superior views your work ethic.

I think a lot of the issue is the interaction between men and women and how a woman's opinion isn't treated the same as an opinion given by a male. I would be more inclined to stay if there was more equality during meetings and the men wouldn't take over the conversation and only look to the men for answers.
