This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door in the aerospace industry. There are many business units under the UTC umbrella and you have the ability to explore all through rotational programs, internships, or full time positions.

I think it depends on the need for each department and location of the site. If you able to discuss with your supervisor prior to or your HR manager if you are not able to speak with your supervisor.

The culture needs to change- it's a lot of old white men in my group, with some very conservative views. It's not inclusive. A push to actually include more people of different gender and of different race would be highly beneficial.

The maternity leave here is supposed to be very good. I am not sure on the specific details.

Hire more women into engineering, and take people's conversations seriously- I've heard some absolutely atrocious comments regarding some women in general. If I say something, I'll get labeled a b&$*% and nothing else changes besides me isolating myself from the others. Flex time is available, but the group I'm in rarely approve it.

If you thought you knew the culture of UTAS before, be sure to look again. The company is making big strides toward work/life balance and building an inclusive, empowered workforce. Policies are changing and manager training is widespread.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    8 paid / 4 unpaid

The maternity policy changed since I was on leave. Now the policy is 8 weeks paid for giving birth and an additional 4 weeks paid family leave (12 weeks paid total for giving birth). The 4 weeks paid family leave also applies to adoptive mothers. Fathers are also eligible for the 4 weeks paid family leave for birth or adoption.

I have benefitted from the UTC Flexible Work Arrangements program. I worked part time while my children were young. I like the way my management approached career growth during that time. Instead of thinking of what I could not do as a part time employee, the conversation was about how I could grow.

This place is FULL of old, white men, but they are willing to change. If you are a woman passionate about generator engineer, you can really kick ass here. If not, you can easily get stuck working in a job you don't love for decades.

Maybe. I think this company treats men and women equally, but I am an intern so I don't know that much. Also, this place isn't a great place to work because of the top-down management.

I would tell another woman that UTC is very accommodating to working mothers. Also, they are very devoted to having a gender parity in all leadership levels by 2030.

UTC has better parental benefits than most other companies that I've looked seen, but the medical coverage is expensive. Women are treated with respect and the few incidents of disrespect that I have witnessed/experienced have been taken very seriously.

Flexibility varies a lot by job function. Operations doesn't allow for as much flexibility as engineering or finance for example because of the nature of the position.
