August 2018

Working here is like being on an episode of Mad Men. There are golf outings no women are invited to, women held back for promotions after having children and countless sexual comments that never “cross the line” but are enough to eventually kill you by a thousand cuts. Certain departments are better than others but the overall tone is not female friendly.

It’s consulting. We need to be realistic about what we have to deliver for our clients and how we need to support our teams. Flexibility is so different from what everyone else has to do that it seems like special treatment which could backfire.

Make sure you are clear on how your immediate supervisor feels regarding alternative work schedules. Some allow great flexibility. Some none.

No maternity specific leave. Must use vacation or sick or unpaid.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

The decision to allow alternative schedules, while allowed and promoted by HR, is left up to each individual supervisor. If you end up with a progressive supervisor you are set. But not so if you end up working for an "old school" supervisor.

May 2015

I've worked here for 27+ years. First day to first 23 or so were wonderful. After that when I didn't want to move up within the organization things started to turn 'blah' where it wasn't ok to not want to increase level and responsibility. In addition it became very male centric where as a woman I was overlooked for my contributions. Pay attention and pick a part of the organization where women are appreciate and in senior leadership positions.
