    Applications Engineering consists of coordinating with the design and development groups to determine effective applications, equipment and methods to produce the best products and solutions within the Robotics and Discrete Automation in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Assist sales and proposal team in the support of existing and acquisition of new customers by performing validation and demonstration, provide expert level technical support at customers’ facilities and ABB Auburn Hills.

    Technical Development Manager

    Your responsibilities

    • Work closely with a variety of global and local teams including R&D (Research and Developmet), engineering, proposal, and sales, to ensure that ABB function package is well implemented and meets the customer expectations
    • Present and demonstrate ABB robot and function package internal and external customers
    • Evaluate customer applications or concepts and assist in efficient implementation of RAPID language solutions
    • Provide business case detailing ABB function package competitive advantages to internal and external sales organizations and customers
    • Plan, conduct or coordinate relatively straight-forward engineering analyses and validations, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review

    Your background

    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field with minimum 2 years of experience; alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments OR Associate’s Degree with 4 years of experience in the Automotive Industry Or a High School Diploma with 6+ years of experience in the Automotive Industry
    • Desired understanding of ABB Functional Package Software & Hardware
    • Knowledge of process in one or more disciplines such as dispensing (Preferably IDFP), spot welding, arc welding, plasma/ laser cutting, ultrasonic inspection, etc.
    • Knowledge of industrial robot operations and servo systems, including electrical and software interfaces
    • Preferably have a working knowledge of control systems, I/O, PLC, and bus communication for building motion control, is a plus
    • Experience in ABB Robots is a definite plus, experience in offline robot programming and simulation packages (RobotStudio) is a plus
    • Strong automation experience with a diverse background including Service, Engineering, and/or R&D
    • Ability to work with projects of different size, complexity, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Up to 25% domestic travel, international may be required in Sweden for training
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
