    As a Buyer, you will contribute to the supply chain management responsibility at the Mebane, North Carolina manufacturing site. You will perform sourcing, procurement, and supplier relationship management to build a network of suppliers for all relevant materials, equipment, services, and other required items for executing production, stock, and general business activities. As a member of our supply chain management, your focus, will be on translating ABB’s current and future product and service demands into appropriate supply chain strategies by ensuring the best global supply channels, identifying appropriate vendors, managing the commercial supplier relationships, and ensuring a stable supply of goods/services with optimum quality, cost, technology, and sustainable performance. You will support and participate in purchasing materials according to required technical specification, price, delivery schedule and terms. Also, you will coordinate with associated groups, such as engineering and accounting to lead the resolution of sourcing, purchasing and supplier related issues. Continuous improvement throughout entire supply chain to increase our customer satisfaction. Ensure purchasing activities aligns with corporate purchasing policies and procedures,The ABB Way, our operating model.

    Your responsibilities

    • Request supplier quotations to compare pricing and lead time to best fulfill current production needs
    • Identifies new suppliers and qualifies in cooperation with supplier quality and engineering
    • Negotiates agreements with suppliers to obtain best terms and conditions for the Company
    • Periodically renews pricelists, terms, and conditions
    • Initiates purchase orders (PO) in system, according to the purchase requisitions and in alignment with standard procedures, confirms delivery with suppliers, monitors, and tracks goods to verify appropriate delivery and proper invoicing
    • Conduct in-depth evaluations of supplier performance, including product quality and voluntary compliance with schedule commitments. As needed, recommend alternative sources of relevant materials, services, etc. to minimize delivery issues and production schedules
    • Work with Category Managers when necessary
    • Enforce terms and conditions of purchase orders, and compliance with legal requirements and Company policies
    • Resolve non-conformance issues, procurement mismatches, back-charges and claims in a timely manner to minimize Company exposure. Review questionable situations and interact with other groups to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Align supplier orders with customer requirements (ERP)
    • Continuous improvement in such areas of lead time, on time delivery, cost, and quality
    • Maintain supplier qualifications, reconcile, and analyze monthly metrics for improvement
    • Build strong relationships with internal and external customers
    • Research new technologies and other measures to achieve operating efficiencies to increase customer satisfaction
    • May provide guidance to less experienced colleagues

    Your background

    • Require Bachelor’s degree in business or technical field with 5 to 8 years of experience working and /or combination of school and work experience in supply chain or related business
    • SAP or ERP experience required
    • Excellent analytical and communication skills
    • Self-directed, organized, detail oriented and able to manage multiply tasks
    • Knowledge of windows operating systems, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Microsoft Office
    • The ability to manage complex issues and work in cross-functional teams
    • Preferred in understanding of e-Business / e-Procurement systems
    • Familiarity with SAP AMSAP and Torque Preferred
    • Knowledge of ABB initiatives related to SAP Ariba and CFIN/FTP Preferred
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
