    Electric vehicles that can get from A to B without any problems? Being a R&D Interop Engineer, you know that securing uniform standards demands significant effort. This job is twofold: on the one hand you work strategically as a consultant where you monitor standards based on your technical knowledge. The rest of your time is spent working as an embedded software engineer where you focus on the digital side of the EV charging technologies. E-mobility is a fast-growing and dynamic company within ABB. You will work in the R&D Interop Team: a close-knit team that currently consists of 15 employees. Each team member brings valuable experience and has a drive for development. According to the team, sharing knowledge and collaboration are the best methods to bring innovations to life. Together with this team you shape the world of electric driving! The Netherlands has set the stage in the world of electric charging stations and is a leader in this young industry. Plug and play? It may sound as simple as that, yet it’s a lot more complex. You write and test software for the digital part of our EV chargers. You also write the technical standards that solidify the correct operation of the EV chargers. With a good technical basis, you personally develop and guarantee the standards that form the basis for further innovation of electric charging. You realize a uniform operation of the electric charging stations so that every vehicle, regardless of model type, can continue their journey without fail. All over the world. You have both a strategic and an executive role, thinking in protocols and convincing others from your technical expertise. This requires a tenacious nature, which you also bring when you face of different opinions. In addition, you think it is important to be close to the software and take the role of embedded software engineer. That way you will keep the connection and get information first-hand in order to create the technical standards. You are also flexible because you work at various times. In fact, you may consult with colleagues from different time zones; sometimes early in the morning, sometimes in the middle of the night. This reflects work-time flexibility allowing you to have a lot of freedom to schedule your own work.

    Your responsibilities

    • Develop and review technical standards for the electronics and software of the EV chargers
    • Negotiate with stakeholders all over the world, to make technical decisions such as connection design. You do this fine-tuning both online and in physical meetings.
    • Program and write standards yourself as an embedded software engineer.

    Your background

    • Completed master's degree, for example in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Systems and Control.
    • Work experience as an embedded software engineer.
    • A perfect command of English, both spoken and written.
    • Knowledge of Python, C/C++, C# and HTML5.
    • Experience reading and writing technical standards for software (ISO15118, DIN70121, SAE2847).
    • Preferably experience participating in a committee where the creation of technical standards is central.
