Engineering Manager

in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Reporting to Regional Engineering Manager, you will be exploiting project opportunities for new and repeat business. Leading best practice defining and sharing globally to improve the overall engineering community competence. This position is based anywhere in Southeast Asia.

Your responsibilities

• Creating an engineering design concept/ philosophy definition. Acting as a design authority for project specific standardized early engineering deliverables. These standardized deliverables will form the basis of entire project execution in large process automation project
• Working with customers at strategic or senior levels to shape and deliver leading edge solutions/processes, seeking feedback and innovating with the customer to drive and deliver improvements, meet customer needs, and develop long term relationship. Interacting with public officials, consortium partners, contractors, suppliers, and others. Finalizing ‘Fail-Safe Philosophy’ and other key concepts as part of Kick-Off and Design Freeze Meetings
• Defining focus areas/priorities for engineering discipline(s) that lead to technological excellence and higher organizational safety performance. Expanding one’s network of engineering colleagues within ABB and externally
• Role Model for design for excellence. Leading, supervising, and coordinating teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on projects of high to very high complexity
• Leading creation or reviews of new processes, tools, and techniques in the business, especially as it pertains to lead and coordinate project engineering teams. Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with policies and performance measures. Ensuring that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements
• Anticipating and solving, crucial issues and/or unique conditions. Creating and implementing strategies for risk assessment and mitigation, opportunity assessment and exploitation in engineering projects/programs. Supporting the project manager in the overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions
• Driving completion of all engineering activities on the project. Defining project tasks and ensuring allocation of these tasks among project team members. Defining schedule, cost, and quality metrics. Coordinating the creation of work plans and cost estimates in all applicable engineering disciplines

Your background

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline
• 15 to 20 years of experience working on DCS, safety, Fire and Gas, Tank Gauging, Offsite blending, Operator training simulator systems etc, preferably on ABB’s 800XA
• At least 10 years of engineering management/Lead Engineer experience in extra-large automation projects involving multiple EPCs in Refinery and Petro-chemical domain
• Experience in handling large and complex project teams
• Previous experience working in a highly diverse and multi-cultural environment, managing diverse team members of various nationalities
• Excellent written and verbal communication /presentation
