    The Field Service Engineer/ Specialist, will deliver site service for installation, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting, repair, basic application tuning, and upgrades of ABB low voltage drives (up to 690Vac, 1200Vdc) & drive control systems at our customer jobsites within the Motion Business Area. Various legacy drive types from GE (Glycol ether) could also be serviced, including their associated PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) control systems. The Field Service Engineer/ Specialist is a semi- independent, remote role, which relies on support staff and peers of the Motion Service business. The Field Service Engineer/ Specialist must be a good communicator, as they are ABB’s customer focused representative on site. They must think on their feet, while projecting confidence and knowledge to the customer, all while understanding the customer’s needs and be accepting of their input. Must be able to work independently, follow service and business processes, independently solve problems while knowing when to seek guidance for complex problems. This role can be located remote in the US.

    Your responsibilities

    • Health, Safety, and Environment are the top priority of ABB. The FST (Field Service Technician) assesses risks & safety hazards, and then implements plans to ensure people and equipment safety. Our FST ensures that proper training and safety processes are consistently followed to keep self, coworkers, and other on-site personnel safe and secure
    • They foster continuous improvement and open communications for a safe work site and work execution. FSTs bring attention to safety gaps and improvement opportunities. They complete required safety documentation, including the Job Safety Assessment and Permit to Work, along with a Service Report for every job
    • FSTs must wear the required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), at all times, including FR (Flame Resistant) clothing, eye & hearing protection, footwear, and gloves. The FST will require ABB electrical safety training, including: LOTO, NFPA70E, OSHA-10, and PICW (Person In Charge of Work). Any MSHA Parts 46/48, Wind Tower Rescue, and BOISET safety certifications are a plus
    • Manage and address the Customer’s service needs and concerns in a timely manner. Document daily work activities in detailed customer service reports, and safety documents. Update and maintain business systems for tracking service fulfillment, equipment maintenance, and service history using the Installed Base process
    • This is a customer facing role requiring constant professional & clear communications, both oral and written, with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), contractors, ABB leaders, and customers. Assist Sales personnel during Customer visits to explain capabilities of the MOSE (Motion Services) service team, and supports service proposal development
    • Lead the site safety planning and documentation while on assignment. Empowered to stop work if any unsafe conditions arise. Support the development of training programs and training course content
    • The FST is the technical resource for on-site drive and drive system installation, programming, configuration, maintenance, tuning, trouble shooting, and repair. Must be competent & comfortable in PLC programming and communication protocols for industrial applications

    Your background

    • Bachelor degree and 5 years or work experience OR Associate degree and 7 years of work experience OR High School Diploma/GED and 9 years of work experience required
    • Travel up to 50% including overnight travel required
    • Experience in engineering or technical support in an electro-technical industry highly preferred
    • Experience in Drive Applications or Drive Field Service highly preferred including demonstrated technical experience in AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) industrial drive applications
    • Understanding of the electrical and mechanical engineering fundamentals as applied to LV drives and motors for industrial applications highly preferred
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with ABB drives equipment highly preferred
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
