    Interop Support Engineer

    As an interop support engineer, you will support escalated cases for the region and identify field issues requiring coordination across multiple cross functional departments to address. In addition, you will support testing and verification activities, and be the leading-edge expert supporting the commercial deployment of ABB’s industry leading Electric-Vehicle (EV) High Power Charging Stations during new product launch and hyper care phases. As a member of our region and global support team, you’ll have opportunity to learn our e-mobility software/firmware architecture and stacks

    Your responsibilities

    • Technical Proficiency: Provide efficient techniques and methods to solving complex software issues presented by the customer or escalated via our internal support teams. Able to automate repetitive/manual tasks and build software tools, solutions, and processes to execute on a larger scale in an EV network
    • Technical Support Efforts and Root Cause Analysis: Identify and analyze patterns that are causing issues at a system level. Knowledgeable of industry standards and able to review system/interoperability data to implement an effective solution. Work with Charge Point Operators (CPO) to provide EV infrastructure support and testing via cloud communication using the latest OCPP and other industry standards
    • Test, Plan and Execution: Defines test plans to investigate and solve critical product issues, provide data driven feedback to optimize IT infrastructure architectures internal and external facing integrations with customers. Define the details, test sequences, testing methods and procedures, and equipment and instrumentation to be used with reference to those standards
    • Collaborative and Knowledge Transfer: Work with internal (ABB service teams, R&D, product management, testers, interoperability teams) and external (local service organizations, customers) stakeholders’ expectations and deadlines. Translates requirements into practical service execution. Provides guidance/mentorship to stakeholders and junior team members while sharing lessons learned via written instructions and manuals
    • Task Priority Management: Can self-manage multiple high-risk priorities while still maintaining communication and meeting expectations of all our customers and internal stakeholders. Can properly execute daily activities while still able to strategize on how to meet upcoming deadlines
    • Customer Subject Matter Expert: Represents the Service E-Mobility team both internal and external to ABB. Provides consulting services to business operations as a subject matter expert of our EV charging solution and industry standards/processes
    • Continuous Education and Self Improvement: Willingness to step into undocumented/unknown technical situations with the customer/internal stakeholders monitoring status and deadlines are fast approaching. Assist local team and customers with pilot installations and commissioning’s of chargers. Analyze pilot results and provide data points back to product development teams

    Your background

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Power Electronics, or Electrical Engineering required with a minimum of 2 years work experience as an embedded test engineer or software test engineer; In lieu of having a degree, equivalent direct experience will be considered
    • Demonstrates solid competence in DC EV Charging technologies, have a foundational understanding of industry standards (ISO 15118/DIN 70121/IEC 61851 Series, SECC V2G Communication, OCPP 1.6j)
    • Development of charging systems 20kW- 500 kW for the mobility of the future. Hands on experience with electrical hardware/software engineering components and how they behave in a charging product.
    • Advanced experience working in Linux systems environments, Python, and automation scripting. Experience with Robot Framework and Azure DevOps a plus
    • Knowledge of Software development life cycle experience. Can navigate comfortably via command line and parse through thousands of rows of data while developing easier mythology to resolve issues at a quicker pace
    • Experienced in maintaining and/or designing IT Architectures with API integration. Working in environments with little to no documentation. You can share detailed examples of critical thinking in troubleshooting complex issues without documentation or processes yet to be developed
    • Fluent in English language both speaking and in writing. French, Spanish and any other Global languages will be a plus
    • You are eager to learn, and you are prepared to develop technical skills within this area
    • You work independently and proactively, solution-oriented and like to find sustainable solutions
    • Willing to travel domestically and internal and willingness to be available outside normal office hours. Some holiday and weekend support hours may also be required when necessary
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
