Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

The R&D Associate Engineer Identify plays an important role by proposing and implement technology development and solutions. In this position, you will execute product development tasks using your technical expertise. In this role, you will perform a variety of technology/engineering assignments, recognizing problems and providing input on solutions.

Your responsibilities

• Demonstrate solid technical proficiency in mechanical design and project execution while executing design projects. Must demonstrate independent ability to understand, modify, and design new solutions. Translate requirements into designs using appropriate analysis and design tools. Use simulation and modeling to verify interaction and function of design in the end-product or system. Root cause and implement corrections for design issues. Collaborate as a member of a cross-functional team to introduce products/projects into production. Document, design, create and maintain bill of materials and support documents to ensure a robust historical record of the products being designed.
• Ensure alignment with assigned targets (time, cost, quality) and coordinate activities. Demonstrate sound understanding of, and actively apply, R&D processes and tools. This includes developing execution plans with milestone-based schedule, risk assessment, and abatement planning. In addition, must execute to meet project commitments and deliver a robust product while following a design tollgate process and leveraging design for six sigma methodology. Must collaborate with cross-function teams to ensure a robust, manufacturable, cost-effective product is released. Work collaboratively with the manufacturing plant and supply chain to bring product to production.
• Identify risk assessment and mitigation plans for each R&D Project. Use sound engineering logic and available data to reduce risk and develop strong plans to mitigate risks early and reduce them in a stepwise fashion.
• Develop test plans for product certification. Plan and build prototypes, review, and interpret results. and apply findings to ensure robust adherence to internal and 3rd party certification requirements
• Contribute to R&D projects with own, creative ideas. Propose follow-up projects within own technical area based on new ideas.
• Maintain awareness of state-of-art technology, as well as ABB products and technologies, and identify and understands technical drivers for R&D projects in your area. Understand what creates customer value in our R&D projects and project portfolio of our organization and work to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction according to incoming requests.
• Participate constructively in working teams. Share your own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and support colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high-quality results. Show solid documentation skills and develop design review content independently.
• Participates in networks in own area, including relevant engineering networks, in order to further knowledge in targeted area of expertise.

Your background

• Bachelor’s degree, or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• 5+ Years design experience with demonstrated success in project execution
• Experience designing with CREO from concept development to detailed design
• Demonstrated technical leadership and organizational skills
• Availability to travel
• Advanced level of English
