    Lead Project Engineer - Residential Enclosed Products

    Utilize technical expertise to ensure robust design, documentation, and compliance of residential load centers, meter socket load centers, AC Disconnects, and other residential electrical equipment. Lead cross-functional team when problem solving, completing root cause analysis, establishing corrective actions while evaluating manufacturing or customer opportunities, cost reduction activities, and qualifying materials from new sources. This will include quick turn development of design extensions using CREO, including part and assembly modelling, bill of material documentation in Windchill, tolerance studies, test plan development, and design review preparation. It will also include working with 3rd party certifiers (UL, CSA) to obtain/maintain compliance of our products.

    Your responsibilities

    • Demonstrate solid technical proficiency in mechanical design and project execution while doing root cause analysis, corrective action development, executing quick turn design projects , and implementation. Must demonstrate independent ability to understand codes and standards applicable to these products. Must translate product requirements into designs using appropriate analysis and design tools. Root cause and implement corrections to make design more robust or cost effective. Collaborate as a member of a cross-functional team document, design, create and maintain bill of materials and support documents to ensure a robust historical record of the products being designed.
    • Must collaborate with cross-function teams to ensure a robust, manufacturable, cost-effective product is maintained. Work collaboratively with the manufacturing plant and supply chain to bring changes to production.
    • Use experience to ensure alignment with assigned targets (time, cost, quality) and execute activities. Demonstrate sound understanding of, and actively apply, R&D processes and tools. This includes developing project plans with milestone-based schedule, risk assessment, and abatement planning as well as establishing quick turn action to resolve real-time business needs.
    • Identify risk assessment and mitigation plans for all design changes. Use sound engineering logic and available data to assess risk to determine severity, next steps, and escalate as appropriate.
    • Develop test plans for product certification or changes. Work with manufacturing to plan and build prototypes, review, and interpret results, and apply findings to ensure robust adherence to internal and 3rd party certification requirements
    • Contribute to R&D projects with own, creative ideas. Propose follow-up projects within own technical area based on new ideas.
    • Maintain awareness of state-of-art technology, as well as ABB products and technologies, and identify and understands technical drivers for R&D projects in your area. Understand what creates customer value in our R&D projects and project portfolio of our organization and work to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction according to incoming requests.
    • Participate constructively in working teams. Share your own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and support colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high-quality results. Show solid documentation skills and develop design review content independently.
    • Participates in networks in own area, including relevant engineering networks, in order to further knowledge in targeted area of expertise.

    Your background

    • Bachelor’s degree, or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
    • 5+ Years design experience with demonstrated success in project execution.
    • Experience designing with CREO from concept development to detailed design.
    • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
    • Availability to travel.
    • Advanced level of English.
