The role reports to the Maintenance Tool Room Manager NEMA and is located in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Maintenance Electrician & Technician, you will be responsible for performing these functions in a manner that does not compromise their safety or the safety of coworkers. The Maintenance Electrician must be able to perform these task for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. If an employee is unable to perform these essential functions it is their responsibility to bring this to the attention of their supervisor, manager, or Human Resource Manager. In these situations, ABB will discuss and attempt to provide any reasonable accommodations that may be available.

    Your responsibilities

    • Ability to understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training and hazard communication information. This includes but is not limited to wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: hard hat, face shield, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, seat belt, safety harness, googles and respirator where required
    • Ability to be exposed to excessive noise, heat and cold environments, also exposed to lubricants, oils, coolants, grease and sealants. Must be able to work in confine spaces
    • Frequently grip with hands, turn, push, pull, bend, and reach above shoulder level while handling heavy loads. This includes lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and to keep up with the demanding pace of production
    • Possess the dexterity and hand-eye coordination to utilize various hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete a variety of complex task. Equipment includes but is not limited to: overhead cranes, electric chain hoists, pneumatic tools, hydraulic lift tables, welders, electric and manual pallet jacks, and controls with knobs and buttons. The employee must also have the ability to operate a forklift, scissor lift, boom lift and maintenance cart
    • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions. Ability to read, and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, pneumatic drawings and use a computer. Must also have the ability to operate, read, and interpret precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators and to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair press-line equipment, in-line furnaces, air conditioning, heating, venting, some plumbing and other different types of equipment
    • Effectively communicate technical information to supervisors, tool room personnel, coworkers and engineering
    • Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the schedules work day
    • Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice

    Your background

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Electrician Certificate or Degree from a Trade School or College
    • Prefer (5) Five years of experience in Industrial Manufacturing environment as a Maintenance Electrician
    • Industrial Electrician with blue print reading skills, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and electronics knowledge
    • Must be able to read and understand written and verbal directions
    • Must be able to interpret various measuring devices, have good shop math and mechanical abilities
    • Have the ability to troubleshoot, in a timely manner, different types of problems with automated machinery, presses, furnaces, HVAC, some plumbing, and other types of equipment as needed
    • Must be able to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment and repair it
    • Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings/blueprints and understand electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
    • Must be able to weld, have good use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment
    • Good team player, with displayed ability to work independently and safely
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
