    Manufacturing Engineer

    As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will drive improvements in production for ABB NEMA Motors within the Motion Business in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In this role, you will support the Plant/Production Staff by utilizing Lean Principles to develop/improve processes to meet safety standards, quality standards and customer demands. You will provide support with process and product issues and play an essential role in the procurement of new manufacturing equipment.

    Your responsibilities

    • This position will assist the Engineering department with the following duties within the FSM (Functional Safety Management) facility to include but not limited to:
    • Set direction for, lead and take ownership of improving safety, quality, customer service and productivity using appropriate technology to solve problems and accomplish company/plant goals
    • Design and Develop new and improved manufacturing processes, including Automation: to include equipment specifications, justification, capital procurement, installation, start up, capability studies, as well as continuous improvement
    • Select and design fixtures, tooling, accessories and material for new and existing processes while assisting in the development of new product lines and processes.
    • Establish process standards, shop practices, manufacturing instructions, operator training and time standards and routings
    • Participate in and Lead employee teams for process improvement using Lean Flex Flow methodologies. Track projects using appropriate tools, present reports on progress, problems and solutions
    • Serve as technical resource for Process Improvement Teams. Must be willing to work overtime and off-shifts as needed. Majority of scheduled hours will be during dayshift hours
    • Some travel required - 10-15% for training

    Your background

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with minimum 0-2 years experience
    • Prefer 2 plus years of experience in manufacturing and BUS/SAP experience is desirable
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Solid Works - preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Project
    • Ability to read, interpret, and edit drawings
    • Team oriented person with strong interpersonal, communication and cross functional working skills
    • Automation background a plus
    • Good working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and a Quality background - preferred
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
