    Your responsibilities

    • Contribute to ongoing research activities on energy-saving and CO2-reducing optimal operation of future process industries through increased usage of renewable energy sources.
    • Analyze individual components used in the process industries and build corresponding mathematical models.
    • Explore efficient algorithms to reduce CO2 emissions via solving optimization problems.
    • Use your optimization skills to further combine the scheduling and energy optimization to reduce overall operational cost.
    • As a member of our project team, you should be highly motivated to get familiar with an unknown topic, be interested in code development and complete your work tasks independently.

    Your background

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Systems-Engineering, or similar.
    • You have first experience with mathematical optimizations and know how to build and simplify applied optimization models.
    • You are well acquainted with the programming languages, e.g., Python, C/C++.
    • To communicate in our international team, you should have sound English skills in speaking and writing.
    • Experience in using different optimization solvers (e.g., Gurobi, Cplex) is a plus.
    • Knowledge of electrical systems and electricity market is a plus.

    ABB's Corporate Research Center Germany is currently located in Ladenburg and will move to near-by Mannheim soon. The metropolitan Rhine-Neckar region offers vivid cities such as Mannheim and Heidelberg full of attractions. Additionally, nearby recreation areas such as the Forest of Odes and Palatinate provide numerous options for outdoor activities. With the approval of your university, you can complete your master’s degree by spending six months with us as you work on a practically focused thesis.
