Network Engineer

As a Network Engineer, you will be the design authority for engineering projects in Electrification Distribution Solutions (ELDS) in Mebane, North Carolina, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service. You will play a key role in simplification and in securing communication networks for Industrial controls and automation projects; will also drive network design standardization, network risk mitigation, issue containment and review / propose hardware equipment based on the project scope to meet customer needs.

Your responsibilities
- Technical Contribution: Review customer specifications to develop networks for industrial automation and control projects for power systems. Experience in network systems analysis. Develop, review and document network design, and test plans for automation & control systems. Network hardware evaluation and configuration
- Sales Support: Providing pre sales support for proof of concept and system architecture review / recommendations
- Planning and Control: Developing presentations, demonstrations and lab set up for industrial networks for customer projects and for proof of concept. Develop and maintain standard network architectures
- Change management: Coordinate and drive continuous improvement activities and quality projects. Utilize change management to implement and improve relevant processes, policies and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering team
- Risk management: Reviewing and providing feedback on network requirements and application. Consult within the engineering team to determine project milestone completion and to maintain committed delivery dates
- Customer focus: Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal stakeholders to ensure that the customer requirements are understood and being achieved. Providing support for troubleshooting network systems over the phone and / or on site
- Communication: Effectively communicate technical aspects of communication network project activities vertically and horizontally in the organization
- Health, safety and environment (HSE): Maintains a culture of Health & Safety in all project activities
Your background
- Bachelor's Degree in network or electrical engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience in networks design and engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial networks design and engineering
- Master Degree in network or electrical engineering preferred
- CCNA or CCNP certification
- Proven soft skills with problem solving aptitude
- Must possess a strong technical background and knowledge of industrial network systems, routers, gateways and other network devices
- Must be familiar with industrial network architectures, troubleshooting tools and network analysis tools
- Ability to travel (~20%)
- Available to travel at short notice
- Security zone implementation and firewall configuration
- Basic understanding of power systems, controls, and automation devices
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial communication networks engineering and design, exposure to industrial controls and automation devices, experience with IEC61850 protocol and its implementation in networks, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a metric driven environment with strong customer focus
