    Working as a Principal Project Engineer, you will be the authority/support person for various engineering projects in Auto OEMs Products Robotics & Discrete Automation in Auburn Hills, Michigan, providing technical details, costs and deliverables for sales proposals. Design authority for an engineering discipline with medium to high complexity. Coordinate engineering assignments across several projects within the entire value chain efficiently, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.

    Your responsibilities

    • Technical contribution: Act as a technical lead, approves design deliverables. Review all project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Anticipate and solves unprecedented problems, crucial issues and/or unique conditions. Serve as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods
    • Sales support: Assist in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering pro-jects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.)
    • Contract management: Support Contract Managers in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.). Provide quality solutions as per customer requirement and delivers within budget and contract. Ensure adherence to safety standards and mitigates potential risks
    • Planning and control: Create work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility Reviews and approves scope, budget and schedule for assignments and ensures quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost. Improve effectiveness of work plan in collaboration with other functions
    • Risk and opportunity management: Create and execute strategies for risk and opportunity management in one’s area of responsibility. Identify and manage contract risks taking preventive/corrective actions to resolve any con-tract/quality/program/cost issues. Report any outstanding issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution
    • Customer: Work with the customer to shape and deliver solutions and seeks customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements. Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments
    • Supply chain management: Collaborate with the Supply Chain function to ensure that technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed on with potential suppliers. Provide technical evaluation of supplier proposals and accepts as fit for purpose supplied equipment or services
    • Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Represent function in standardization committees and in communication and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments. Act as technical specialist/adviser to senior management. Collaborates and networks within ABB and externally

    Your background

    • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science and 10+ years of experience in related field. Knowledge, and awareness in automated mobile robotic solutions and robot applications
    • Functional experience programming AMR fleet management software. Ability to identify, detail and make understandable the necessary requirements of a software system, as well as to execute the software functional design, to convert them into understandable functionalities for stakeholders, such as end-customers, software system design, development, and implementation teams
    • Experience defining the architecture of software systems by making high-level design decisions and establishing technical standards, including platforms, tools and programming standards, considering functional, non-functional requirements and customer needs
    • Competence to program, adapt and integrate software components or subsets (classes, modules, screens, routines, subsystems, programs in general) according to specifications (functional and technical)
    • Develop and integrate self-developed software systems or third-party technologies to communicate different software elements and devices of industrial plants for the integral operation of the soft-ware system
    • Competent developing software applications or services in different programming technologies and frameworks. Depending on the software to be developed, proficiency in the multiple programming languages is required
    • Ability to install, configure, test and commission software systems developed in an orderly and efficient manner, applying knowledge, and optimizing the software to be installed and its integration with the industrial environments where they work
    • Familiar with international standards (IEC, ISO, NFPA, NEC, UL). Familiar with automotive industry standards and specifications
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
