    Project Engineer

    As a Project Engineer, this individual will be responsible for leading Special/Micro/Customer projects, including engineering support in the areas of interpretation of specifications, design, test, documentation, and cost reduction, while coordinating with technical teams in Richmond and in other ABB Smart Power facilities.

    Your responsibilities

    • Critical member of the Product Engineering team, responsible for providing Design support on Special/Micro/Customer projects
    • Support Product Management and Sales for submittals, customer issues and continuous improvement
    • Special/Micro/Customer projects including generating preliminary BOMs, releasing through cross-functional groups including procurement and production, and supporting through first unit build.
    • Designs procedures and manufacturing documents for new electrical systems
    • Resolves component obsolescence issues working with Planning, Procurement and Logistics.
    • Leads product design improvement opportunities to reduce product cost
    • Works strategically and collaboratively to ensure all power protection products conform to customer expectations

    Your background

    • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university
    • With minimum 2 years of related engineering work experience
    • 2+ years’ experience with 3D engineering design software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor, including 3D model creation, component selection and documentation
    • Innovative mindset with ability to imagine new ways of solving customer challenges and improve existing products
    • Experience in mechanical design of systems, including sheet metal, electronics packaging, heat dissipation and seismic endurance preferred
    • Experience in translating customer requirements into solutions built on existing product offerings
    • Experience in interpreting agency (UL/CSA/NEMA etc.) standards for their application to our product offering
    • Coordinating with vendors and teams in other facilities to execute Special/Micro/Customer projects
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
