R&D Product Engineer

Based in Ede, you will work under the banner of the Smart Buildings business line within the Global Product Group Energy Distribution. As an R&D Product Engineer, you are attached to the research and development center in the Netherlands. This is set up to develop new and innovative products. You exchange information (remotely) with ABB colleagues worldwide. ABB has several R&D centers, including in Belgium, Germany, Egypt and Italy. The product engineer is at the cradle of new product developments. You determine the direction, functionality and design. In the rapidly changing market for residential and commercial buildings, the emphasis of product development is now more on integration of products into the entire construction process. Of course you will not do this alone but in a multidisciplinary team. As a starting product engineer you will be coached by a Sr. Product Engineer to master the organization and way of working. Quality and accuracy are the magic words here. Our test engineer will test your design against the set requirements and will come up with an objective opinion about the quality of the product design and the execution. Your team ABB's R&D Center in the Netherlands has 9 colleagues and expansion is underway to meet market demand. The connection with the organization is therefore high. Characteristic of the team is the quiet atmosphere, where everyone can do their work with concentration. Within the team, each individual has a different personality. And that is also the strength of the group; we stimulate each other in every possible way. It is an open department where it is easy to knock on someone else's door if you need help.

Your responsibilities

• Developing products is how you do it:
• You are passionate about product development and are therefore able to apply different methods of product development.
• Creativity flows through your veins and the more difficult the task, the more enthusiastic and driven you become.
• Sustainability and safety is not a question but a matter of course.
• The product development process is also well documented because it is important to be able to consult design choices afterwards.
• You don't develop products alone, we do this multidisciplinary.
• Since our products are produced in large numbers and thus much of the production is automated, clear and unambiguous communication is a must to avoid insurmountable problems.

Your background

• You are looking for a great company where you can use your creativity and contribute to product developments. You recognize yourself in the following profile:
• Education Bachelor Industrial Design / mechatronics / mechanical engineering / electrical engineering or similar.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering or willingness to learn it.
• Knowledge of constructing plastic products and the injection molding process.
• Knowledge of constructing punching and milling parts.
• Works accurately, conscientiously, but also dares to take informed risks.
• You are results-oriented, communicative and accurate
• Knowledge of 3D CAD and model based engineering (preferably SolidWorks);
• You are result-oriented, communicative and accurate.
• Good command of the English language in word and writing.
