    As a Research Scientist, you will help steer the direction of strategic corporate technology by focusing on solving industrial problems through reliable research work. Working as a researcher in R&D (Research & Development) projects, you will solve applied research and technology problems and develop ways to more effectively solve them. As a Research Scientist, you will work in dynamic, international teams comprised of people with a wide range of experience and competencies. The Corporate Research Center in Raleigh, NC shares worldwide responsibility for research and technology development at ABB, including the wide range of electrical machines and drive technology of ABB. Reporting to the Research Department Manager, you will conduct hands on research, simulate physical behavior, analyze innovative manufacturing methods and demonstrate how to use them in ABB applications.

    Your responsibilities

    • Your work will contribute to a deep scientific understanding of the impact of variations in design, materials and manufacturing on the behavior of products through simulation and testing
    • Key performance indicators include: Bringing an innovative approach
    • Challenging existing methodologies
    • Shortening design de-risking cycles
    • Finding cost effective and environmentally friendly solutions

    Your background

    • Graduate degree in electrical engineering, physics or similar field of study with experience with electric motors, generators or actuators
    • A Ph.D is preferred, but exceptional candidates with a master's degree and minimum 2 years of working experience will be considered
    • 2D/3D design, analysis and simulation software experience required
    • Prototyping and testing experience also a must
    • Aptitude for interdisciplinary research and application oriented solutions is also required
    • The close collaboration with the R&D departments of ABB business and other research labs requires you to be a team player and an effective communicator with a willingness to travel
    • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
