Senior Mechanical Project & Design Engineer (80-100%)

Part of the Motion Service team, you will work in our Center of Expertise set up for Medium Voltage drives Services and taking over products from System Drives into our portfolio to develop, deploy and maintain new modernization solutions for our installed base to innovate and develop solutions that create value for our customers. In this role you will analyze, modify, and create the design of equipment, systems or installations, including specifications and documentation for manufacturing, fabrication and installation. Also, you will adopt the solutions and generate products to support the target business solutions to serve the installed base of medium voltage converters.

Your responsibilities

• Deliver solutions based on product requirement specification in close collaboration with product management and manufacturing team
• Ensure creation of customized designs with high priority on reusability of solutions as key deliverable of the product development projects
• Optimize designs to meet updated standards, incorporating new products, components, and functionalities that meet customer expectations
• Design review and verification following established quality assurance and control process, provide feedback on design aspects and make necessary modifications
• Ensure the design is done following ABB internal and all relevant normative regulations applying to the scope of work
• Identify, develop and implement product extension requests to support the portfolio
• Create work plans and cost estimates for work in one’s area of responsibility and ensure quality deliverables on time and at targeted cost
• Complete risk and opportunity assessments and the implementation of resulting actions in one’s area of responsibility and report any quality / program / cost issues to management, along with recommendations, for resolution
• Interact with Electrical engineering, system design, customers, sales, product and project management as well as product engineering to provide technical guidance on design related queries
• Close cooperation with solution receiving unit to ensure the best level of productization for future maintenance and further product development
• Collaborate with the supply chain function, review vendor documentation, prepare RFQs, and provide design related evaluation of proposals for non-standard materials and equipment

Your background

• Mechanical engineering background
• Several years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering, product development or engineering and strong passion towards the electrical designing field
• Familiar with Solid Edge as CAD tool, SAP knowledge to manage parts and bill of material
• Knowledge about ACS drives or experience in the environment of medium voltage area preferred
• Initiative, creativity and great attention to detail
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach and strong written and spoken communication skills in German and/or English
• Good networking capability to establish and maintain relationship with all relevant functions to manage project progress
