Senior Project lead Engineer

The Senior Project Lead Engineer is the technical lead for all engineering activities related to projects in Marine Systems, Process Automation Marine & Ports (PAMP) in Houston, Texas, heading up and coordinating engineering teams in projects of medium complexity, disseminating technical knowledge and best practices. You will be responsible all engineering activities in assignments classified as medium engineering complexity. Ensure that activities related to engineering discipline(s) within the project are efficiently and cost effectively executed, in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.

Your responsibilities
- Technical contribution Engineering development: Ensures that engineering is developed with complete information. All multidisciplinary information has been included in the engineering development
- Evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform tasks for challenges
- Authorization: Acts as a design authority for engineering deliverables in all applicable engineering disciplines
- May act as design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completes engineering assignments for that discipline
- Acts as a technical lead, approves design deliverables
- Construction support: Collaborates on project installation, commissioning and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors
- Provides technical support to commissioning and start up activities
- Customer and Sales: Works with customers to shape and deliver solutions, seeking feedback and innovating with the customer to drive and deliver improvements
- Interacts with officials, contractors, suppliers and others

- Finalizes ‘Fail Safe Philosophy’ and other key concepts as part of Kick Off and Design Freeze Meetings
- Participates in project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations
- Creates project engineering proposals through coordination of proposal documents and engineering estimates
- Performs engineering risk analysis before submitting proposal
- Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Serves as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods
- Collaborates and networks with engineering colleagues within ABB and externally
- Shares best practice across different projects and disciplines
- Coaches project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including modelling, proto typing and calculations
- People Leadership and development: Leads, supervises and coordinates teams in all disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on projects of medium complexity
- Leads single or multi discipline engineering teams with 5 to 25 resources
- Processes and tools: Reviews and develops standard processes, tools and techniques
- Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements
- Risk and opportunity management: Anticipates and solves crucial issues and/or unique conditions
- Evaluates risks and opportunities, strategizes mitigation of one’s engineering projects/programs
- Supports the Project Manager in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions
- Identifies opportunities for repeating and new businesses
- Assesses and addresses technical risks and opportunities
- Reports any contract / safety / quality / program / cost issues to Project Manager(s) along with recommendations, for resolution
- Contract management: Reviews all project documents for conformity, safety and quality assurance
- Negotiates claims and engineering changes
- Supports Project Manager/Contract Manager in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.)
- Oversees the creation of subcontracts and manages the subcontractors jointly with other involved disciplines, including supply chain management
- Planning and control: Defines project tasks and ensures allocation of these tasks among project team members
- Defines schedule, cost and quality metrics
- Coordinates the creation of work plans and cost estimates in all applicable engineering disciplines
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in (Naval architect , Electrical engineering) and minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Maritime Project execution experience
- Experience in Marine Industry
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
